Bill summary

Requires the Department of Public Safety (DPS), in consultation with specified entities, to conduct a pilot program in Forsyth County for the use of global positioning system tracking devices on domestic violence offenders. Makes the offender subject to the monitoring responsible for the costs associated with the device. Specifies issues that must be considered in implementing the program. Requires DPS to report to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety on the effectiveness of the program by April 1, 2022.

Appropriates from the General Fund to the Department of Public Safety $25,000 for FY 2019-20 to implement the pilot program.

Effective July 1, 2019.
