    Under current law it is unlawful for a school bus driver to drive a school bus occupied by one or more children at a rate of speed more than 45 miles and unlawful to drive a school activity bus at a rate of more than 55 miles per hour on the state's highways or public vehicular areas.

    Amends GS 20-218(b) as the title indicates. Requires a school bus driver to drive a school bus or a school activity bus no faster than the posted speed limit on public highways or public vehicular areas of the state, providing that there areno child passengers on the school bus or activity bus. Also provides that the driver is not required to use hazard lights when traveling on the interstate when no children are on board.
