Enacts new GS 126-8.6 (concerning state employees) and new GS 115C-336.2 (concerning public school employees) to provide three days of paid bereavement leave upon the death of an immediate family member. Defines immediate family member as (1) spouse, child, parent, sibling, grandparent, and grandchild and corresponding step, half, or in-laws or (2) any person living in the employee's home for whom the employee may claim a tax deduction. Prohibits accumulating the leave or using the leave for creditable service toward retirement.
Requires the Office of State Personnel and the State Board of Education to adopt rules necessary to implement the act.
Effective July 1, 2015.
