A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO MAKE IT A CRIME TO OPERATE AN AMBULANCE, EMS VEHICLE, FIREFIGHTING VEHICLE, OR LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLE UPON ANY HIGHWAY, STREET, OR PUBLIC VEHICULAR AREA WITHIN THE STATE WHILE CONSUMING ALCOHOL OR WHILE ALCOHOL REMAINS IN THE PERSON'S BODY. House committee substitute to the 1st edition makes the following changes. Amends GS 20-138.2B to also make it a crime to operate a firefighting vehicle on any highway, street, or public vehicular area while consuming alcohol or while alcohol remains in the person's body. Adds the provision that statute does not apply to law enforcement officers acting in the course of and within the scope of their official duties. Makes conforming changes to the act's title.
