AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE IMMUNIZING PHARMACISTS TO ADMINISTER CERTAIN CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES FOR THE TREATMENT OF THE HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS.

    Amends GS 90-85.15B (outlining vaccines/immunizations pharmacists can provide) to add subsection (c1) permitting immunizing pharmacists to administer controlled substances for the prevention of HIV to persons at least age 18 and pursuant to a prescription. Sets out recordkeeping and physician notification requirements. Amends GS 90-85.3(i1) (definition of immunizing pharmacist) to make conforming changes. Directs the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy to collaborate with the North Carolina Medical Board and the Department of Health and Human Services to develop protocols and administrative rules to facilitate administration of controlled substances as described in this bill. Effective October 1, 2021.
