Bill summary

Enacts GS 116-43.30 to exempt students enrolled in the NC School of Science and Math and the UNC School of the Arts from paying exam or course registration fees for advanced courses, regardless of the score the student achieves on the exam, to the extent funds are made available. States legislative intent, and defines advanced course to mean an Advanced Placement course, an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme course, or a Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education course. Directs the UNC System Office to annually report to the specified NCGA committee, as specified, beginning December 15, 2022.

Appropriates $90,000 in recurring funds from the General Fund to the UNC Board of Governors for 2021-22 to pay the exam and course registration fees for advanced courses for eligible students. 

Effective July 1, 2021.
