Under current law, the school calendar consists of a minimum of 185 instructional days for students or 1,025 instructional hours. Amends GS 115C-84.2(a) (School calendar) and GS 115C-281.85(a)(1) (Course of study requirements) to provide that when a school is closed because of inclement weather, a natural disaster, damage to a school facility, or a state of emergency, the school is required to make up a maximum of the average days or hours made up for the last five years. Makes this provision applicable only to the Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Caldwell, and Watauga County school administrative units. Applies beginning with the 2015-16 school year.
