AN ACT TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY FOR A PILOT PROGRAM IN THE STATE TO INCREASE DIVERSITY IN THE GAME OF PICKLEBALL.

    Appropriates $196,362 in nonrecurring funds for 2024-25 from the General Fund to the UNC Board of Governors to be allocated to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management in the College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University for the creation and testing of a Pickleball based wellness initiative to enhance diversity and promote physical and psychosocial well-being through programs located in eastern Wake, Halifax, and Northampton Counties. Explains that the counties were chosen based on population diversity, economic need, and community health assessments. Directs that the initiative consist of six required elements including, interview with Black and Latino residents to gain insight into how to best create and promote programs aimed to promote wellness and increase equity, branding and marketing, pickleball instruction and gameplay, post-program evaluations, and creation of a toolkit so that the program can be replicated throughout the State. Specifies that the funds do not revert. Effective July 1, 2024.
