Amends GS 20-7 to provide separate requirements for remote renewal of drivers licenses based on whether the license complies with federal regulations adopted pursuant to the REAL ID Act of 2005. Makes the existing provisions allowing for remote renewal if the most recent renewal was in-person limited to REAL-ID compliant licenses. Adds new provisions to allow for two consecutive remote renewals of a non-REAL ID compliant license, whereby a renewal thereafter must be renewed in-person. Applies to licenses renewed on or after January 1, 2026.
