Enacts new GS 1416.9A to make Article 5A (setting out crimes for endangering executive and legislative, and court officers) applicable to elected officers for a period of one year from either the date that the person's term expired, or the date that the person resigned from office. Effective December 1, 2017, and applicable to offenses committed on or after that date.
Amends GS 20189 to direct the Secretary of Public Safety, at the request of the immediate past Governor, to assign a member of the State Highway Patrol on an occasional basis to the former governor for his or her security for one year after the former Governor leaves office. Expenses are to be paid from appropriations made to the office of the Governor.
Unless otherwise indicated, the act is effective when it becomes law.
